Taqueria Picoso opened on January 27, 2020, with a simple goal: to share our love of true Mexican food, and create a neighborhood gathering place built around good food and the joy of sharing a table.

Elio Gómez, Executive Chef

Born and raised in Mexico City, Elio brings over 15 yrs of culinary leadership to Taqueria Picoso. A graduate of Colegio Superior de Gastronomía, Elio trained extensively before launching a catering business in CDMX and then working with acclaimed restaurants in Mexico and Canada. In 2019, Elio was recruited to Alexandria to help bring Taqueria Picoso to life. He leads menu development, kitchen operations, and team training—guided by traditions learned from cooking alongside his grandmother.
Isaac Ramirez, Chef de Cuisine

Isaac Ramirez, Chef de Cuisine

Isaac also hails from Mexico City and shares a lifelong friendship with Elio. He brings over 15 yrs of experience in professional kitchens before joining Taqueria Picoso in 2019. He graduated from Instituto Gastronómico Belinglise and built his career in respected hotels and restaurants across Mexico. He was pivotal in establishing our tortilla production, mastering the nixtamalization process to create fresh masa. Isaac oversees staff, ensures quality control and continues to drive our growth.

Taqueria Picoso was conceived and founded by husband-and-wife team Tom Voskuil and Lynn Umemoto, whose shared backgrounds continue to shape the restaurant. Tom brings decades of hospitality and operational leadership, guiding systems, service, and long-term growth. With a long career in branding and creative strategy, Lynn serves as the creative force behind the brand, leading its design, marketing, and community engagement to ensure every detail reflects a warm, neighborhood spirit.
